Established in 1998 in Victoria, BC.

Heads-Up Navigation has been training commercial skippers & crew and pleasure craft operators since 1998 with Transport Canada and Industry Canada approved courses. Owner, Captain Lesley Head, is extremely well-qualified and she provides competent, thorough and knowledgeable instruction.

Credentials (marine related):

  • Transport Canada approved provider/teacher/school for MED. A-3 (MED-SDV-BS) , ROC-M and SVOP.
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma from VCC, Vancouver 2016.
  • Recognized provider for PCOC
  • Recognized examiner for ROC-M, DSC endorsement included.
  • Minister of Transport Certificate: CL-Master Limited Under 60GRT (passenger), No restrictions on vessel or area of water. 
  • Min. of Transport Restricted Engineer/ Min. of Transport Certificate: Bridge Watchman and GMDSS-DSC and ROC Radio licenses.
  • Min. of Transport Certificate: MED-Lifeboatman Qualified In Marine Emergency Duties also MED. C & D (Junior & Senior Officer).
  • International Sail and Power Association Certified Instructor-Power, Coastal Skipper, On the water and in the classroom.
  • Canadian Power & Sail Squadron certificates for Basic Boating, Seamanship Sail and Advanced Piloting- Life Time member. Teacher, Past Commander of Saanich Power Squadron, BC. Teacher for Brentwood Bay Squadron.
  • St. John's Ambulance: Standard 1st. Aid Enhanced and C.P.R., Marine First Aid.
"On the water I spent several years as a professional Whale Watching Skipper,  I ran the Sidney Spit Ferry and I provided Dinner and Party Boat Cruise in Victoria Harbour.  Ask me about these cruises in class, I can perk up your day with some of the antics!   I also participated in the private yacht skipper training profession with various west coast companies,  And I worked for the Canadian Coast Guard on the CCG vessel "Tanu".
